Colorado Springs' Union Boulevard project wins award

Colorado Springs Business Journal,  Feb 15, 2008

The Colorado Chapter of the American Public Works Association has awarded the City of Colorado Springs the 2007 Engineering and Construction Management (Large Community) Award for its Union Boulevard reconstruction project.

The $3.6 million project was completed last August. Work included improving east-west mobility by providing additional queuing capacity for vehicles making left turns, reconnecting more than 50 water customers to a new main with no service disruptions, resurfacing a two-mile stretch in tire rubber asphalt, improving drainage and school crossings, constructing ADA ramps and upgrading traffic signals.

The project was recognized for its cooperation among the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority, Colorado Springs Utilities, the Pikes Peak Area Council of Governments, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the city.
