Colorado Spring's fleet division among top 10 in nation

Colorado Springs' fleet division has been ranked 10th Best Fleet in North America by Government Fleet Magazine.

The ranking was attributed to the city's environmentally friendly and cost-effective fuel program. During the past three years, more than 50 percent of the city's fleet has used biofuels, including more than 1.35 million gallons of biodiesel. Fuel futures contracts have saved residents more than $1.1 million.

The fleet department provides preventive maintenance, third- party warranty recovery, alliances for vehicle purchasing and in- house body work. The nine service shops are ASE blue-seal certified and provide service and maintenance for more than 4,500 vehicles.

More than 1,350 fleets applied for the top 100 rankings.
