The City of Colorado Springs has received final approval from the Federal Emergency Management Agency for a $3 million FEMA Pre- Disaster Mitigation Grant for a stormwater capital improvement project on Cottonwood Creek.
The city's Stormwater Enterprise, Qwest and Current, whose facilities are adjacent to Cottonwood Creek, provided $440,000 each in matching funds to bring the total project budget to $4.32 million. Construction is expected to begin later this year and take six months to complete.
Stormwater runoff in Cottonwood Creek has eroded its banks and threatens the Qwest and Current properties. The project also includes completion of a Tier 1 Trail connection and construction of a maintenance road through the Cottonwood Creek corridor.
