City of Colorado Springs seeking members for multiple committees

Colorado Springs Business Journal,  Apr 6, 2007  by CSBJ Staff

The City of Colorado Springs is seeking volunteers to serve on the Art Commission of the Pikes Peak Region, the Telecommunications Policy Advisory Committee and the Urban Renewal Authority.

There are no qualifications for the art commission other than an interest in public art. The group serves as a resource for public awareness of art in the community and an advisory board to the City Council and the El Paso County Board of Commissioners about public art.

Duties include promoting art in public places, making recommendations about donations or purchases of public art, coordinating art displays in public buildings, participating in the Art on the Streets program, encouraging public/private partnerships, supporting the expansion of public art in visible sites throughout the community and maintenance of public art inventory.

Members of the telecommunications committee advise City Council, the city manager and the director of Colorado Springs Utilities about policies that affect telecommunications between city government and residents.

Members of the Urban Renewal Authority make decisions about development in the five urban renewal plan areas and participate in negotiations about redevelopment issues. Desired qualifications include experience in planning or architecture, a familiarity with redevelopment, master planning, urban planning and the city's development review process.

Letters of interest and resumes for the art commission and the police advisory committee should be sent by April 13 to Mary-K. Burnett, P.O. Box 1575, Colorado Springs, CO 80901.

Letters of interest and resumes for the Urban Renewal Authority should be sent by April 18 to Burnett's attention at 704. E. Boulder St., Colorado Springs, CO 80903.

For more information, visit www.SpringsGov.com and enter Urban Redevelopment, telecommunications or Art Commission in the search field or click on City Council and City Management, then City Boards and Commissions, or call 385-5453.
