March American Pulse(TM): Designer Fashion Over the Top; Nation's Largest Recall Didn't Affect Beef Consumption

Market Wire,  April, 2008

As designers preview their fall collections and hope to impress the masses, the latest American Pulse(TM) of 4,066 participants identifies who's not buying... the American public. An overwhelming majority (86%) says designer fashion shows are over the top and they wouldn't wear any of what they see on the catwalk. A mere 3.3% consider themselves very fashionable and model their closet after the runway.

In addition, almost three in four (73.3%) say that the Government's recall of 143 millions pounds of beef in February did not affect their beef consumption. Regarding politics, 42.3% believe infighting is dividing the Democratic Party and can only help McCain. However, 36.2% say it will work itself out and won't affect the November election.

Other key findings:

-- 41.8% feel the CIA should use waterboarding as an interrogation method
in matters of national security... Nearly as many (39.9%) say it's torture
    and shouldn't be used.
-- 33% feel the top two Republican/Democratic presidential primary
opponents should run as President and Vice President in November.
-- 61.2% say hospitals should locate homeless shelters for homeless,
uninsured patients upon discharge... 25.5% say they should be discharged as
    any other patient.
-- 54.7% feel our society as a whole is responsible for 1 in 4 teenage
girls having an STD. Parents (23.2%) and teenagers themselves (14.6%) round
out the top three groups Americans think are at fault.
