REDFLEX Reaffirms Leadership Position With New State-of-the-Art Traffic Technology in Tempe

Market Wire,  August, 2007

REDFLEX Traffic Systems , the industry leader in automated traffic enforcement systems, announced today that it has been selected by the city of Tempe for automated traffic enforcement services, and entered a contract with the city that includes the installation of over a dozen new camera safety systems this fall.

REDFLEX, also an automated traffic enforcement partner to Chandler, Paradise Valley, Prescott Valley and Pinal County, was chosen by Tempe over present vendor Applied Computer Solutions (ACS) and American Traffic Solutions (ATS). REDFLEX, the nation's leading automated enforcement company, has been delivering successful, safety-enhancing and financially stable automated enforcement programs in Arizona for nearly two decades.

Tempe's aging photo safety system will be replaced with 14 new camera systems at multiple dangerous intersections to be selected by the city. The city also plans to install three mid-block cameras and replace two mobile vans. Tempe was one of the first automated traffic enforcement systems in the Phoenix metropolitan area and is currently operating two cameras.

The new REDFLEX cameras will significantly surpass the city's current cameras not only in number, but also in technology. In addition to snapping photos of red-light runners, the new systems will be able to identify drivers going dangerously excessive speeds through green and yellow lights. New digital technology also brings the added benefit of significantly clearer images, free of the glare and blur associated with traditional film-based technology.

"Tempe is especially committed to the safety of the community and REDFLEX is proud of our partnership with the city," said Karen Finley, REDFLEX CEO. "Public surveys reflect overwhelming support for automated traffic enforcement to help curb unsafe driving, save lives and prevent devastating injuries."

Statistical analysis by The Insurance Institute of Highway Safety from 2005 found that red light-related crashes resulted in more than 800 deaths and an estimated 165,000 injuries. The Institute found that red light cameras offer a significant deterrent effect as well -- an independent study in 2003 found that automated traffic enforcement reduced the number of actual violations by 40-50 percent.

REDFLEX is the industry leader for photo radar system installs in the state of Arizona and throughout the United States, with more successful automated enforcement programs than all other companies combined.
