Ministry to migrants priority

National Catholic Reporter,  August 17, 2007

PACET, Indonesia -- The Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul have agreed to focus intensely on pastoral ministry to migrants, who in their view represent "the new poverty in Asia." This focus emerged from the fifth triennial meeting of Asian Vincentian women superiors, who gathered here in mid-July.

Sr. Anna Soepraptiwi, the Indonesian provincial, said the sisters recognize that migrant workers in Asia face violence, sexual abuse and basic injustices, so they plan to serve migrants and their families by "preparing those willing to work abroad, caring for their health, giving them counseling, and helping them realize themselves as person and image of God."
