MARYKNOLL, N.Y. -- "Lives for Sale," a documentary about illegal immigration and human trafficking by Maryknoll Productions, an activity of the U.S.-based Catholic mission society, will debut on PBS television stations nationwide this month.

The documentary hits at the heart of the current immigration debate, said its executive producer Larry Rich, who is also director of new media for Maryknoll.

Each year more than 1 million people risk their lives attempting to cross the U.S.-Mexico border to escape devastating poverty, according to a news release from Maryknoll about the program. "Lives for Sale" juxtaposes the American dream with the perilous journey followed each year by desperately poor Central Americans and Mexicans, the release said.

A joint production with Lightfoot Films in association with Faith & Values Media, it will also be broadcast over the Hallmark cable channel. Check local listings for air times, or visit www.livesforsale.com.
