Souper Bowl sets $8 million target

National Catholic Reporter,  Dec 29, 2006

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- The National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry is encouraging Catholic youth groups to help the Souper Bowl of Caring organization meet its goal of raising $8 million dollars for food banks and programs that feed the poor and homeless.

Last year, 11,500 church youth groups across the United States raised $5 million dollars. This included $1 million raised by 1,245 Catholic youth groups. The youth ministry federation wants 2,007 Catholic youth groups to join the efforts this year.

On Super Bowl Sunday--Feb. 4 in 2007--youth group members stand at church doors with soup POTS, asking churchgoers to donate. All the monies raised by a youth group will be given to a charity selected by that group. For details and a free resource kit, visit www.souperbowl.org.
