George Korb

George Korb, a longtime financial supporter of NCR and numerous causes and charities, died July 20 in Troy, N.Y. Born in Syracuse, N.Y., Korb was a librarian and a sociologist specializing in Latin. America with degrees from Syracuse University, Fordham University and the University of Chicago. He worked abroad for many years in Japan, Thailand, Mexico, Chile and Peru.

In 1986, Korb was arrested during a demonstration against President Ronald Reagan's policies toward Nicaragua. He was tried in federal court and convicted of civil disobedience. He was active for the nationalist cause in Northern Ireland. In later years, he volunteered with numerous service clubs for seniors and Catholics in the Albany area. His body was donated to the Albany Medical College Anatomical Gift Program. A memorial Mass was to be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church, Rensselaer, N.Y., July 30, which would have been Korb's 94th birthday.
