Victims. - sound recording reviews

Ebony,  Sept, 1991  by Lynn Norment

Steel Pulse, the Grammy Award-winning reggae band from Great Britain, turns out another stellar performance with Victims (MCA). Continuing the musical tradition of tackling social issues, Steel Pulse co-founder/chief songwriter/vocalist David Hinds created the thought-provoking songs inspired by Mandela's release from prison andthe dismantling of the Berlin Wall.

The rhythmic "Taxi Driver" takes note of the difficulty that Black men have getting a cab in New York, London and other major cities. "Gang Warfare" attacks street violence, and "We Can do It" is a plea for peace and an end to discrimination. Also, there are numerous love songs, such as "Can't Get You Out of My System," on which Stevie Wonder delivers a ripping harmonica solo.
