Hair care for sisters

Ebony,  May, 2005  by Kimberly Kimble

q: "I'm looking for an easy-to-manage hairstyle as I enter my eight month of pregnancy. I'm thinking about getting my hair braided, but I'm concerned about breakage and drying out my scalp, especially around my hairline. What maintenance routine do you suggest to keep my hair healthy?"

--Mom-2-B, Atlanta

a: "Congratulations-you're having a baby! Just a few do's and don'ts: Don't put too much hair on the braids around your hairline; make those braids finer. Use an antiseptic for the scalp that contains natural oils to soothe the itchiness and to prevent bacteria from forming in the scalp. Wash your braids with a detangling shampoo and conditioner, and oil your scalp regularly to keep it from drying out. Pamper yourself; sleep on a silk pillowcase or tie your braids down with a silk scarf. Stay beautiful!

--Celebrity stylist Kimberly Kimble, West Hollywood. Calif.
