Harry Belafonte & Common

Thank you for the article, "Generations Of Cool" (April 2007), with Harry Belafonte and Common. Mr. Belafonte is one of the last heroes and proponents of the Civil Rights Movement and advocates of human rights. I am glad to see that he is passing along his wisdom to Common, a socially and politically responsible young Brother.

Mr. Belafonte hit the nail on the head when he said, "Every generation has to be responsible for itself." Unfortunately, my generation (Generation X) has not been responsible enough. We must do a better job of raising our children, taking care of our health, and most importantly, we must take advantage of the educational opportunities our elders died for. Education affords us the greatest chance of equalizing the playing field in our community, and we must take full advantage in order to maximize significant change. Let's be responsible.
