HIV/AIDS

Ebony,  April, 2007  by Bobbie D. Carr

Thank you, Ebony, for sharing the article, "Personal Journeys of Women with HIV/AIDS" (Jan. 2007). I read it with sadness and disbelief. At one time, AIDS was considered to be a gay White man's disease. Today, African-American women represent the new faces of HIV/AIDS. They are young Black women who look the picture of health. It is difficult to believe it has killed 25 million people. I don't know if we've gotten the message just yet, and we can't afford to think it could never happen to us. We can't afford to be silent. AIDS is sweeping through the Black community with a deadly vengeance.
