10 Hottest Couples

Ebony,  April, 2007  by Janice Johnson

Your reference to Grey's Anatomy star Isaiah Washington's character's interracial romance in "10 Hottest Couples" (Feb. 2007) seemed to characterize it as some sort of deficiency on his part, as though it made his character somehow less of a Black man as compared to Washington himself whose wife, a "beautiful Sister," is his "leading lady."

As one-half of an interracial marriage and the product of an interracial relationship, I find your insinuation to be racist, appalling and, quite frankly, disgusting. I embrace my Black heritage as well as that of my German/Irish blood. I am no less a "Black man" than any other Brother who reads (or used to read) your magazine.

I found your comments all the more ironic given that the man on the cover of the February issue was none other than Sen. Barack Obama, himself the son of a White mother and African father.
