India.Arie is back with a great new CD, Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship

Ebony,  July, 2006  by Lynn Norment

India.Arie is back with a great new CD, Testimony: Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (Motown/Universal). The deep-thinking, inspirational and multitalented singer/songwriter obviously has been honing her craft and broadening her experiences, and is now sharing (through her thought-provoking music) with devoted fans.

Among the standout cuts is the introspective "These Eyes," which features poignant lyrics set against a captivatingly soulful beat. The Grammy Award-winning artist continues to offer her keen insight with "Private Party," which is a celebration of self, and "There's Hope," a celebration of life. On "The Heart of the Matter," she reveals the painful truth about a doomed relationship, and continues that theme on the yearning "Good Morning" "India Song" is not only an anthem of personal freedom and expression, but it speaks for all who are oppressed. And then there is "I Am Not My Hair" (featuring Akon), which has enthralled listeners since the single first hit the airwaves. "I am not my hair, I am not this skin, I am not your expectations, ... no, but the soul that lives within." Welcome back, India.Arie. We missed you and your wonderful music.
