Coretta Scott King

Ebony,  July, 2006  by Sheila Ann Matthews,  Vonzella A. Evans,  Isti Stevistis

Thank you for the cover and cover story, "A Nation Remembers The Grace & Strength of Coretta Scott King 1927-2006." I will keep this particular magazine forever. Oh, my God, what a woman! She stood beside her husband through thick and thin, and she will always be an inspiration in my life. Dr. Martin Luther King would not have accomplished many of the things he did in this world without this graceful woman by his side. She was the perfect example of a strong Black woman. She will be truly missed, but never forgotten.

Today, I received my April issue of Ebony magazine, which is dedicated to Coretta Scott King. Oh, my God! As I started to just leaf through the pages, I began to see that there were entire pages dedicated to her by big corporations. At first, I thought it was just Coca-Cola, then I saw American Airlines. So I started to look for more, and I found many more! It immediately brought tears to my eyes. It made me wish that her parents and her husband could see that major corporations were purchasing whole pages in memory of and dedication to Mrs. Coretta Scott King (a Black woman).

Thank you to Ebony magazine for a job well done.

I never knew Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had such a wonderful wife! For years, I thought Dr. King sailed through on his own, without a helper. I'd never even made any effort to find out about his wife.

Your article on Coretta Scott King has taught me something new about every man--that, indeed, beside every successful man is a woman, who gives him more power.
