Ebony,  July, 2006

Donald R. Pittman, Ed.D., is the chief officer of high school programs for Chicago Public Schools (CPS). He is responsible for the development and implementation of educational programs for more than 105,000 students at over 100 schools. He is credited with leading the planning and implementation strategy that helped transform the city's high schools.

Programs under Pittman's direct supervision include the Academic Decathalon, Bulls Scholars, the Chicago Debate League and the Department of Dropout Prevention and Recovery. Prior to becoming chief officer of high schools, Dr. Pittman served as an instruction officer, where he supervised 24 high school principals, who under his leadership saw student performance improve on the state-administered achievement exam. He also worked at several high schools as a principal and administrator. Dr. Pittman, who has received numerous awards for his work, is active in the civic community. He received a doctorate in education from Nova Southeastern University in Florida, and received both a master's and bachelor's degree from Chicago State University. He and his wife, Vickie, have four children and live in Chicago.
