The Isley Brothers: five decades of soul and seduction

Ebony,  June, 2006

WITH BABY MAKIN' MUSIC (Def Soul/Island), The Isley Brothers featuring Ronald Isley (and bassist Ernie Isley) is making history. The recording continues the unparalleled history of a group that has appeared on the music charts for each of the last five decades, a feat achieved by no other family team in music history.

For true Isley Brothers fans, Baby Makin' Music will not disappoint. There are 11 tracks of smooth, classic Isley sound laced with an updated twist. Two of the tracks on the album, "Heaven Hooked Us Up" and "You Help Me Write This Song," were inspired by Ron Isley's new wife, R&B singer Kandy Johnson, who is also featured on the album singing background vocals on "Pretty Woman." Although Ron's amorous love songs (inspired by wife Kandy) are laced throughout the recording, Ron Isley's alter ego, Mr. Biggs, served as inspiration for "Forever Mackin,'" produced by Jermaine Dupri. As for the slow, sexy side of Isley, listeners will find "Give It To You," an updated version of "Between The Sheets" and "Show Me," a tasteful take on what Baby Makin' Music is all about. Other outstanding producers include R. Kelly and the team of Gordon Chambers and Troy Taylor. With the newest album, the Isley Brothers continue to express themselves as consistently valid chart-makers. And with Baby Makin' Music, there are more than a few future classics in the making.
