Body talk

Ebony,  June, 2006  by Kimberly M. Gay

As I read the Body Talk column, "Yes, You Can Lose Those Pounds And Inches" (March 2006), I was compelled to write and tell all the EBONY staff thank you for such an informative article.

I am living proof that you can win the overweight battle. From the article's insightful information on the importance of exercising to how to set goals that you can accomplish to workout routines to information about staying fit and in shape, it was all highly informative and gave great suggestions on how to overcome the battle of the bulge.

As the article states, "Get your priorities straight." I learned that food is for fuel not just to fill voids in your life. I am an African-American woman with a self-made weight-loss success story. I have lost 163 pounds so far (and still losing). I started my own low-maintenance, all-natural weight-loss program October 1, 2004, and to this date I have gone from a size 26-28 to a 12-14 as of February 2006. I went from 352 pounds to 189 pounds.

I have learned to exercise regularly, and today I still enjoy working out five times a week for about three hours. I eat better and healthier than ever before in my life. I have done this weight-loss program on a natural level, and I have not used any diet pills, weight-loss remedies or surgeries.
