Lena Horne

Ebony,  March, 2006

The legendary Lena Horne delights fans and admirers with a collection of previously unreleased songs on SEASONS OF A LIFE (Blue Note). The collection was compiled and produced by Home's longtime guitarist and musical director Rodney Jones, who joined Horne in 1983 for the run of her Tony Award-winning one woman Broadway show.

Among the gems on the collection are Billy Strayhorn's "Maybe," "You're the One" and "Chelsea Bridge" (which features Herbie Hancock on piano). At times Home is romantic, at other times melancholy or wistful or bluesy or playful, as she is on "Singin' in the Rain." Says producer Rodney Jones: "Her vocals are a rich tapestry of musical colors and warm hues of tone ... Through Lena's music, we share feelings and smiles, knowing looks and inside jokes. Welcome to the family. You are in good company."
