General Motors Corp.

General Motors Corp., the world's largest automaker, has been the global industry sales leader since 1931. That leadership has helped to strengthen GM's reputation of community support and outreach. For instance, GM's legal staff is at the center of the nationally recognized Street Law Program that's designed to expose high school students to the study of law and to encourage them to consider pursuing careers in law. A team of GM legal staffers works with Detroit Public Schools teachers to develop the class curriculum. Additionally, GM, which has for years promoted academic achievement and character development among youths, is part of a corporate alliance that forms the Partners for the Advancement of Collaborative Engineering Education (PACE), which recently gave Howard University an inkind contribution of software and other technology valued at $70.6 million. In the midst of its philanthropic efforts, GM continues to focus on vehicle safety with efforts like its "Safe Kids Worldwide," a global network of organizations whose mission is to prevent accidental childhood injury, a leading killer of children who are 14 and under.

Tyson Foods, Inc.

Tyson Foods, Inc., founded in 1935, is the world's largest processor and marketer of chicken, beef and pork. It's also the second-largest food company in the Fortune 500. Among its community outreach efforts, the company, for the second consecutive year, sponsored six of the nation's highest regarded HBCU Football Classics, including the Southern Heritage Classic, the Arkansas Classic, the Atlanta Classic, the Indianapolis Circle City Classic, the Magic City Classic and the Florida Football Classic. Tyson powered the participating HBCUs with scholarship donations totaling $70,000 over the six games. "The Classics are about more than the game of football; they are about pride, heritage and achievement," says Bob Corscadden, Chief Marketing Officer of Tyson Foods, Inc. "We are committed to the belief that empowering yourself through excellence in academics and community service can make a measurable, wide-scale difference. Our core values at Tyson are synergistic with those espoused by HBCUs, which is why we have embraced support of these prestigious games and what they represent." Tyson's scholarship donations assist individual students attending HBCU schools. "Historically Black Colleges and Universities are cornerstones of the African-American community," says Shawn Coker, Vice President of Diversity at Tyson. "We recognize the importance of supporting institutions dedicated to preparing our young people for work and life experiences." Tyson also offers qualified students a number of internships at its worldwide headquarters in Springdale, Ark. For more information about Tyson Foods visit www.tyson.com.

The National Dairy Council

Recognizing the importance of getting the nation's youths back on a healthier track, the National Dairy Council[R] (NDC) is supporting the NFL and Action for Healthy Kids[R] in its launch of ReCharge! Energizing After School[TM], the first nationally distributed after-school program that integrates nutrition and physical activity through team-based strategies for youth. NDC will distribute more than 5,500 ReCharge! program kits to schools by the end of the 2006 school year. Also, as part of the NDC partnership with the NFL, NFL players have been visiting schools nationwide to teach students about the importance of a healthier diet, which includes 3-A-Day[TM] of Dairy. "Kids need to learn early in their lives that exercise and proper nutrition should be a part of their daily routine--even if it's just riding their bike to school or grabbing a carton of milk or a piece of fruit at lunch," says Tiki Barber, running back for the New York Giants, as well as ReCharge! Energizing After-School and NDC spokesperson. For more information on ReCharge! Energizing After-School, visit 3aday.org or ActionForHealthyKids.org.
