Lupe Fiasco

Ebony,  March, 2008

Who says hip-hop is dead? Ask prophets like newcomer Lupe, and it'll sound like he's come to resurrect the rhyme. After his 2006 Grammy and BET Hip Hop award-nominated debut album, Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor, Lupe takes no pause to set the stage with the follow-up, Lupe Fiasco's The Cool (Atlantic). Fiasco collaborates with heavy-hitter producer Soundtrakk on the hit single, "Superstar." Imagine there being more to rap about than just the obvious cars, spinners, women and some imaginary bankroll. Refreshingly, it sounds like The Cool may get cool points for substance. Kinda reminiscent of what hip-hop used to be. To all the naysayers, it sounds like hip-hop's heart is still beating.
