Lenny
Ebony, March, 2008 by Lynn Norment
Lenny Kravitz returns with an exciting new CD, It Is Time For A Love Revolution (Virgin Records America), and music fans will be thrilled. The party begins with the first cut, "Love Revolution," and it continues for the next 60 minutes through 14 riveting songs that resonate with Lenny's body-swaying grooves, inspiring guitar work, incessant drums and his characteristic earthy vocals. But in the midst of the jam session, there are tender moments, as evident with the romantic "I'll Be Waiting," the endearing "I Love the Rain" and "This Moment Is All There Is," and the delightful "Good Morning," on which he serenades his love while jump-starting his and her day. Another memorable tune is the touching "A Long and Sad Goodbye," on which he asks: "Papa, why did you turn your back? Why didn't you stay on track? Why did you leave and make me cry? ... and now it's a long and sad goodbye. And then there are lyrics that motivate social action and consciousness, such as "Back in Vietnam," which focuses attention on the war in Iraq but also the Vietnam War. But Lenny always returns to the party, as he does on the rollicking "Dancin' Til Dawn," which surely will prompt some foot-tapping and head-bobbing. As on his previous seven recordings, the multi-instrumentalist writes, produces, arranges and plays all the tracks on the CD. For those in the know, you can never get enough of Lenny Kravitz.
