Standing Tall: Lessons in Turning Adversity into Victory

Ebony,  March, 2008

In Standing Tall: Lessons in Turning Adversity into Victory (Crown, $24.95), C. Vivian Stringer, with Laura Tucker, writes a moving memoir about overcoming adversity with grace and stamina. Stringer, head coach of the Rutgers University Women's Basketball team, rose to prominence outside of the sports arena when radio host Don Imus made racist and inflammatory comments about the players. Stringer and the players were lauded for refusing to fan the flames of controversy. But Stringer knows the importance of not getting caught up in the moment. She has won a lot and she has lost a lot. She tells her story in Standing Tall.
