In THE AUGUST WILSON CENTURY CYCLE (Theatre Communications Group, $200), the works of the most influential and successful African-American playwright arc brought together. Wilson, a two-time Pulitzer Prize-winner, is the author of Fences, Gem of the Ocean, The Piano Lesson, King Hedley II, Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Joe Turner's Come and Gone, Seven Guitars, Two Trains Running, Jitney and Radio Golf. His plays have been produced all over the world.
Wilson's plays were epic and poetic, and deal mostly with the lives of African-American families after slavery. From Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, which explores the exploitation of Blacks in the music industry, to issues of housing gentrification in Radio Golf, the last of Wilson's 10 plays, each examine a 10-year period in the African-American experience in 20th Century America. Radio Golf is set in the 1990s.
