Prince

Ebony,  Sept, 2007  by Lynn Norment

PRINCE graces the music scene with a new recording, Planet Earth (Columbia), on which the multidimensional music genius delivers great rhythms and thoughtful lyrics, some that urge conservation of the earth's resources. That's the message of the title song, which is delivered with conviction and verve.

Prince follows with the jamming "Guitar," on which he lets loose musically and vocally in classic Prince style. On the sensuous "Somewhere Here on Earth," the intriguing balladeer offers a titillating love song with emphatic horns and piano wizardry. There are numerous dance jams, such as the bouncy "Chelsea Rodgers." Enhancing the recording are vocals from Marva King and Bria Valente, as well as an expert crew of musicians that include Sheila E., Michael B., Sonny T., Christian Scott and longtime Prince protegees Wendy and Lisa.
