Ledisi

Ebony,  Sept, 2007  by Shirley Henderson

SUFFERING FROM A BROKEN HEART? Can't keep up with bill payments? Recording artist LEDISI has been there and done that--a fact evidenced on many of the tracks featured on Lost and Found (Verve), on which she sings about life's hardships. The CD is a soul music lover's answer to several music genres, including R&B, jazz and pop.

A vocalist and songwriter, Ledisi blends her rich voice with mellow beats on "Think of You," where she confesses "You're the air that I breathe ... you're the love of my life." Similar confessions are made on "I Tried" as the artist yearns for her lover from a failed relationship. Ledisi, scats, sings and stirs the senses, especially on "Someday," on which she conveys a rare and powerful message of love and respect for her parents.
