Dean P. Baquet is editor of the Los Angeles Times. He is the first African-American to hold the post. Baquet joined the paper in 2000 as managing editor. Prior to that, he worked at the New York Times, where he was the national editor and an investigative reporter. He was a finalist, along with another reporter, for the Pulitzer Prize for a series of stories about poor care in New York City's public hospitals.
Baquet also worked as a reporter at the Chicago Tribune for nearly six years, working as the associate metropolitan editor for investigations and as chief investigative reporter. He was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting in 1988 as one of a team of three reporters who uncovered corruption in the Chicago City Council. Baquet attended Columbia University, where he majored in English. He is married, has a son and lives in Santa Monica.
