Wilma Grey is director of the Newark Public Library, where she is charged with revitalizing its branches, supervising community library services and leading a $76 million renovation and expansion project. She is the first African-American woman to hold the position. Grey, a 30-year veteran of the system, has held a variety of positions, including supervisor of library branches and administrator of the system's African-American and World Book collections.
She is a member of several committees and organizations, including the American Library Association, the New Jersey Library Association, the Newark Black Film Festival Committee, and she serves as president of the Newark Literacy Campaign. Grey received her master's degree from Rutgers University School of Communication and Information and Library Studies. A native of Newark, she is single and lives in South Orange, N.J.
