Sounding off. . - The Best In Recorded Music - Lucky Day; Sacred 4 You - sound recording review
Ebony, Dec, 2002 by Lynn Norment
SHAGGY shakes up the holiday music scene with Lucky Day (Big Yard/MCA), his ode to the women who influenced his life. He starts the party with "Shake Shake Shake," followed by "Full Control," which features Barrington Levy and will get your body moving with its lush beats and spirited lyrics. The party continues with "Get My Party On," featuring Chaka Khan; "Hey Sexy Lady," with Brian and Tony Gold, and "These are the Lips," with Rik Rok. Shaggy brags about his player prowess on "Lucky Day," then turns poignant as he praises the "Strength of a Woman." On "Give Thanks," he does just that, then offers good advice on "Walking in My Shoes."
With an incredible spiritual recording, Sacred 4 You (Music One/Sony), composer/harpist JEFF MAJORS eases listeners into the holiday mode. It is the fourth in Majors' 12-CD Sacred Series. With ethereal arrangements of original and well-loved, timeless compositions, Majors delivers easy listening music than can serve as the rhythm of life. There are soothing, updated takes on "Were U There" and "Near the Cross." Jean Carne is featured on "Somebody Bigger." The stirring, moving "Pray" was co-written by Majors and Luther Vandross. Al Johnson's wonderful vocals also can be heard on the heavenly "Heard My Cry" and "Psalms 1," which exemplifies Major's lush, orchestral sound. On each selection, Major's angelic harp is majestic.
