ON THE FIRST DAY OF HISTORIC ELECTIONS that led to the election of Nelson Mandela as South Africa's first democratically elected president, elderly women carried an infirm friend to the polls to cast their first vote. Thousands of people around the world helped free South Africa, which is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the South African revolution this month.
