Be daring in red - Beauty & Style

Ebony,  April, 2004

MANY things can be said about the corporate Sister who wears red to the board meeting: She's bold, knowledgeable, independent, upfront, graceful under pressure and, more often than not, determined to shatter a few glass ceilings during the course of her career (if she hasn't done so already).

In fact, many businesswomen, when facing a huge meeting or seeking a raise, will put on a splash of red to feel more powerful. And although it's generally frowned upon to wear a red suit when seeking a job, career strategists do agree that a hint of red is appropriate when worn under a classic navy or charcoal gray suit for an interview.

After hours, just as many things can be said of that same Sister who's bold enough to pour herself into a sizzling crimson dress and step out for a night on the town: She's confident, outgoing and sexy, and more often than not, she's no stranger to the limelight.

Many bashful beauties may dabble cautiously in red, via spicy accessories like a red hat, belt, or shoes. They choose to tread lightly before going all the way with a red two-piece power suit. Yet, the true diva understands the strength and the prowess of such a divine hue, and respectfully throws caution to the wind when dressing in it.
