College styles - Beauty & Style

Ebony,  Sept, 2003

What's hot on college campuses these days is clothing that expresses individual style. Here we showcase some of the hottest looks on college campuses, modeled by real students. The looks are as varied as are the schools and students themselves. Some students adopt a rugged or grunge look (such as the jean ensemble at left) that sustains them throughout their college years, while others opt for a more sophisticated style, as demonstrated by the sassy wool pleated skirt and classy black turtle neck (right). Every student's wardrobe should include practical but fun clothing, as well as outfits that can take you to special campus events and important meetings with the dean. Whatever your college or major, express your own individuality and style.

Kiana Clemons, a sophomore at Malcolm X College in Chicago, is "tight" in Dolce and Gabbana black wool ribbed turtleneck, Burberry grey wool pleated and belted miniskirt, and tall black leather Gucci boot, all from Saks Fifth Avenue. Miu Miu black leather handbag and D&G black leather hat, both at Neiman-Marcus. University of Illinois speech communications junior Stetson Saunders sports a rugged style: Earl Jeans fur-lined denim jacket and paisley shirt, Just Cavalli tee-shirt, and Diesel jeans, all at Neiman Marcus. Kenneth Cole suede messenger bag from Bloomingdale's.

For those campus dress-up functions, Kiana wears D&G black wool pantsuit and white cotton shirt, both at Neiman Marcus. Kenneth Cole silver hoop earrings from Marshall Fields. Devin Thompson, a sophomore sports marketing major at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, wears Miu Miu brown corduroy blazer, Paul Smith striped shirt and striped wool pant, all from Barney's New York.

Howard University senior Bethany Ward (top) sports popular bohemian style in Marc Jacobs green coat, DKNY cotton gypsy skirt, Prada suede belt (all at Neiman-Marcus) and her own Mossimo jeans and Howard tee-shirt.
