Artist spotlight - Sounding off: for the latest and hottest in Black music! - Brief Article

Ebony,  Sept, 2003

DIANNE REEVES mesmerizes and soothes with her crystalline, powerful contralto on A LITTLE MOONLIGHT (Blue Note), an intimate set of jazz standards produced by Arif Mardin. Among the gems on the all-acoustic set are the swinging "What A Little Moonlight Can Do," her sweet and mellow "Skylark," and the ballad "You Go to My Head," with a solo from trumpeter Nicholas Payton.

Backed by pianist Peter Martin, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Greg Hutchinson, Reeves (creative chair for jazz for the L.A. Philharmonic) effortlessly demonstrates expansive vocal range and divine pitch while dusting the selections with her earthy style.
