Better test for heart disease - House call: expert advice on health and fitness - Brief Article
Ebony, Sept, 2003
Q I'm 30 years old and heart problems run in my family. I've heard there's a new test to predict your chances of getting heart disease. What is it?
G.T., Washington, D.C.
A You probably are referring to the test that records apolipoprotein levels, which some doctors think is a more effective way to measure the risk of heart disease, the No. 1 killer in the U.S. Apolipoproteins are major elements in the particles that carry cholesterol in the blood, and researchers say the elevation in one type of protein is a better indicator of vascular disease than cholesterol levels.
