I am a 19-year-old college student/athlete who has just finished my first year of college. I am writing because I want to thank you for the article, "The Half-Billion-Dollar Hip-Hop Empire of Russell Simmons" (July 2003). I love to read EBONY because it lets me know that I can be a successful Black male and not just another statistic or stereotype. Once again, thanks, because it's people like John H. Johnson, Russell Simmons, P. Diddy, Master P and Robert Johnson who inspire me to be a successful young Black entrepreneur.

I want to commend Kevin Chappell for writing such an interesting, appealing article and capturing the essence of Russell Simmons and his family.

Russell Simmons captured the American Dream, and he does it with such grace and honor. Also during his marriage with the beautiful and talented Kimora, Russell has discovered his religious awareness and his approach to his empire for the future.
