Sexual Abuse of black boys - Letters to the editor - Letter to the Editor
Ebony, August, 2003
I would like to thank you and commend you for the article, "Sexual Abuse Of Black Boys" (June 2003). I was sexually abused by an uncle and a family associate for number of years. I have experienced the signs and mentioned in the article--guilt, anxiety, suicide attempts, fear, anger, depression, low self-esteem, shame, sexual obsession, alcoholism and drug abuse.
There are many areas that your article did not speak on, but at least you have taken the time to shed light on such a terrible topic that many of us could not talk about, not to friends, other family members or even our parents.
We need to talk to our sons (and daughters) and make them feel loved and safe enough to trust talking to us about these matters.
Thank you again for making your readers aware so that this horrible act does not go on.

I want to thank you on the article, "Sexual Abuse Of Black Boys." The article was very informative about abuse. This article was very much needed, and I just hope and pray that it reaches the mass audience. This article opened up a lot of wounds for me. Being a victim of sexual abuse by someone close to me, this article was fight on the money. The wounds that a person faces on a day-to-day basis are real.
Thank you.
