Jonathan Mariner is the first Black senior vice president and chief financial officer of Major League Baseball. Before he was promoted to this position, the certified public accountant was executive vice president and chief operating officer of Charter Schools USA and executive vice president and chief financial officer of the Florida Marlins.
As president of the Marlins Ballpark Development Corp., he was responsible for developing the $400 million baseball-only ballpark in south Florida. Mariner received a bachelor of science degree in accounting from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Harvard Business School. He and his wife, Mildred, live in Davie, Fla., and have three sons, Brian, Matthew and Phillip.
