Herb starves cancer cells

Better Nutrition,  Oct, 2004

An extract of the leaves of a mint-like Chinese herb could be used in the fight against cancer, according to researchers working at the University of Salford in Manchester, England.

Scutellaria barbata was tested in a lab on human cells from breast and lung cancers. It appears to work by destroying the blood vessels supplying tumors. The extract should have fewer side effects than conventional treatments, which attack healthy cells as well as cancerous cells.

Next, the study team will test the extract on human cancer patients. And we'll be monitoring the results.
