Don't wash your chickens

Better Nutrition,  Sept, 2004

MYTH: You should wash your chicken before you cook it.

TRUTH: Eight out of 10 meat-eaters risk food poisoning by unnecessarily washing chicken under the tap as part of the preparation process. Food safety experts say that rinsing poultry is needless because the cooking process kills bacteria. But rinsing the bird under the tap actually "splashes" any bacteria from the bird onto nearby taps, kitchen surfaces and foods.
