Whey for weight loss

Better Nutrition,  Sept, 2004

A high intake of whey protein reduces body weight and increases insulin sensitivity to a greater degree than a diet high in red meat, concludes a new Australia. study published in the June 2004 issue of the Journal of Nutrition.

Researchers at the University of Adelaide found that--in a high-protein diet--both red meat and whey concentrate reduced energy intake and "visceral, subcutaneous and carcass fat." However, the whey diet reduced body weight 4 percent more than the red meat diet.

Whey protein also reduced plasma insulin concentration by 40 percent and increased insulin sensitivity compared with red meat protein.
