Oh my gout: A diet high in animal protein is linked to an increased risk of the painful joint condition known as gout, says a study in The New England Journal of Medicine. Both vegetables and dairy proteins provide a protection against the disease. A second study in The Lancet concludes that gout risk is higher among beer drinkers.
And a third study suggests gout is an early warning sign of heart disease.
